WBSSC Assistant Teacher (SLST) Preparation Guide

The West Bengal School Service Commission selects Assistant Teachers through the State Level Selection Test (SLST). The written exam is only 60% of the final evaluation — the remaining 40 marks come from academic record, experience, interview and a teaching demonstration.

Exam Pattern

60 multiple-choice questions, 1 mark each, no negative marking, attempted in 90 minutes. The paper tests subject knowledge at graduation level plus teaching methodology for the concerned subject.

Final merit combines the written exam (60 marks) with academic qualification (10), teaching experience (10), interview (10) and a teaching demonstration (10) — 100 marks in total.

Preparation Strategy

Attempt every question: With no negative marking, there is no reason to leave a question blank — even an educated guess only helps.
Balance subject content with pedagogy: The paper isn't pure subject knowledge; it also tests teaching methodology. Candidates who prepare only their subject and skip pedagogy fundamentals leave easy marks behind.
