IBPS SO (Specialist Officer) 2026 is a recruitment exam conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to hire domain specialists — IT Officers, Agriculture Field Officers, Law Officers, Marketing Officers, HR/Personnel Officers, and Rajbhasha Adhikaris — for 11 public sector banks across India.

Yes. Both the Preliminary and Main examinations have negative marking. For every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks (i.e., 1/4 of the marks allotted to the question) are deducted. No marks are deducted for unattempted questions.

The IBPS SO Prelims consists of 3 sections: English Language (50 questions, 50 marks, 40 minutes), Reasoning (50 questions, 50 marks, 40 minutes), and Quantitative Aptitude (50 questions, 50 marks, 40 minutes). Total: 150 questions, 150 marks, 120 minutes. Each section has an individual time limit and sectional cut-offs apply.

The IBPS SO Mains has a single section — Professional Knowledge — with 60 questions for 60 marks to be attempted in 45 minutes. The negative marking is 0.25 marks per wrong answer. Mains score (combined with the interview) determines final selection.

An IBPS SO Scale I Officer earns a basic pay of ₹36,000 with 4 increments, reaching up to ₹63,840. In addition, officers receive Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA (House Rent Allowance), CCA (City Compensatory Allowance), and other perquisites, making the gross monthly package approximately ₹40,000–₹55,000 depending on the city of posting.
