The written examination has 60 multiple-choice questions, 1 mark each, to be attempted in 90 minutes. It tests subject knowledge at graduation level along with teaching methodology for the concerned subject.
No. There is no negative marking in the WBSSC SLST written exam, so candidates should attempt every question — an unattempted question and a wrong answer cost the same.
The written exam (60 marks) is only part of the total 100-mark evaluation. Academic qualification (10 marks), teaching experience (10 marks), interview (10 marks) and a teaching demonstration (10 marks) round out the score used for the final merit list.
A Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks along with a B.Ed from a recognised university; some subjects require a Master's degree. Age must be 21–40 years, with relaxation of up to 8 years for reserved and PwD categories.
SLST recruits Assistant Teachers for both secondary (classes 9–10) and higher secondary (classes 11–12) levels in West Bengal government-aided and sponsored schools, across subjects like Bengali, English, Mathematics, Life Science and History.
