UPHESC Assistant Professor Preparation Guide
UPHESC (now UPESSC) recruits Assistant Professors for Uttar Pradesh's state government-aided degree colleges and universities — a distinct process from UPPSC's Government Degree College recruitment, with its own written-exam-plus-interview structure and no negative marking.
Exam Pattern
100 objective questions worth 200 marks in a single written examination: General Knowledge (30 questions, 60 marks) and the Subject Concerned (70 questions, 140 marks). No negative marking. An interview worth 30 marks follows, for a final merit out of 230.
Preparation Strategy
- Attempt every question: With no negative marking, there's no reason to leave a question blank — even an uncertain guess only helps.
- Prioritise your Subject Concerned preparation: At 140 of 200 written marks, it dominates the paper — build depth here first, using NET/Ph.D.-level material for your specific subject.
- Build General Knowledge across its full stated range: Current Affairs, Teaching Aptitude, ICT, Environment, History, Geography and the Indian Constitution are all named components — don't narrow preparation to just current affairs.
- Confirm which commission is currently recruiting for your subject: UPHESC's functions have transitioned to UPESSC — check the current notification's issuing body and official site (uphesc.org) before relying on older material.
- Prepare for the interview from the start, not as an afterthought: At 30 of 230 final marks, it's a meaningful share — begin structuring subject and teaching-related answers alongside your written preparation.
- Practise full-length papers at roughly 72 seconds per question: 100 questions in 120 minutes leaves reasonable time per question, but timed practice still catches pacing issues before the real exam.
