UP TGT Preparation Guide

The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Services Selection Board recruits Trained Graduate Teachers through a single written examination. Two facts shape how you should prepare: your teaching subject dominates the paper, and every question is worth 4 marks.

Exam Pattern

125 objective questions carrying 500 marks, to be attempted in 2 hours. The paper covers your chosen teaching subject alongside General Awareness, English and Quantitative Aptitude.

At 4 marks per question, a single question is worth four times what a mark is worth in most competitive exams — which changes the cost of a careless error considerably.

Preparation Strategy

Build depth in your subject first: The concerned subject carries the largest share of the paper, and it is graduate-level rather than school-level. Work from the degree syllabus for your subject rather than from general teaching-exam compilations, which pitch too low.
Do not skip the general sections: General Awareness, English and Quantitative Aptitude are where subject specialists routinely lose the marks that decide their rank. They are a smaller share of the paper but a much cheaper one per hour invested.
Treat every question as worth four marks: Accuracy matters disproportionately here. Practise re-reading the question stem before committing, because one avoidable slip costs the equivalent of four ordinary marks.
Add Uttar Pradesh general knowledge deliberately: State history, geography, polity, schemes and current affairs appear within General Awareness and are the part most often under-prepared by candidates using national-level material.
