RPSC's Assistant Professor exam splits 200 marks across three papers — two on your subject, one on Rajasthan general studies — with a real per-paper qualifying bar before the interview even comes into play.

Exam Pattern

Three objective papers: Paper I and Paper II (75 marks each) test the Subject Concerned, and Paper III (50 marks) tests General Studies of Rajasthan — 200 marks total, with 1/3rd negative marking throughout. Candidates typically need at least 36% in every paper and 40% overall to qualify for interview.

Preparation Strategy

1. Treat all three papers as must-clear, not just must-score: The per-paper qualifying bar means a very weak Paper III can disqualify you even with strong subject papers.
2. Prioritise your subject at NET/Ph.D. depth: Papers I and II together carry 150 of 200 marks — post-graduate level material is the right pitch, not undergraduate textbooks.
3. Build Rajasthan General Studies as a distinct, finite subject: Paper III rewards dedicated state-specific preparation rather than general national GK.
4. Respect the 1/3rd negative marking across all three papers: Guess only when you can eliminate at least one option.
5. Prepare for the interview once you're through the written stage: At 24 marks, it meaningfully affects final merit — begin structuring subject and teaching-related answers after clearing the qualifying bar.
6. Track NET/SLET eligibility requirements early: Confirm you meet the NET/SLET/SET or Ph.D.-exemption requirement well before applying, since it's a hard eligibility gate, not just an exam topic.
