Maharashtra ICDS Mukhya Sevika Preparation Guide

The Women and Child Development Department conducts the Mukhya Sevika (Supervisor) examination as a departmental promotion exam. It is not an open recruitment: only serving Anganwadi Sevikas with a degree and ten years of continuous regular service may sit it, with an upper age limit of 50 years.

That framing matters for preparation. You are competing against colleagues with similar field experience, so the differentiator is usually the academic sections rather than the ICDS content everyone already knows.

Exam Pattern

The paper is divided into two groups of 50 questions each, with 45 minutes per group — 100 questions across 90 minutes.

Subjects covered:

  • Marathi Language & Grammar
  • English Language & Grammar
  • General Knowledge
  • ICDS Schemes and Acts

Preparation Strategy

  1. Bank the ICDS section, then move on: Programmes, child development, nutrition and the relevant Acts overlap directly with your daily work, making this the fastest and most reliable scoring block. Confirm your knowledge against the current scheme documents rather than assuming practice matches the written rules, then spend your study time elsewhere.
  2. Treat Marathi as an exam subject, not a first language: Fluency does not automatically produce marks. The grammar, vocabulary and usage questions reward the same deliberate revision any language paper does.
  3. Give English the most preparation time: For most candidates in this pool it is the least-used skill and therefore where the largest gains sit. Comprehension, cloze, para jumbles and error spotting are all learnable patterns.
  4. Prioritise Maharashtra general knowledge: State history, geography, polity, schemes and current affairs recur more reliably than national trivia, and are finite enough to cover properly.
  5. Practise in 45-minute blocks: Because the paper is timed per group rather than as one 90-minute sitting, rehearse in the same shape — running out of time in Group I gains you nothing in Group II.
  6. Work through full mocks close to the exam: With a narrow, experienced candidate pool the cut-off tends to be tight, so converting known material accurately matters more than chasing obscure topics.
