The written paper has 80 objective questions carrying 80 marks, to be completed in 80 minutes. It is split evenly into four sections of 20 questions each: General English, General Awareness with special reference to J&K UT, Numerical and Reasoning Ability, and Basic Concepts of Computers. One full section of 20 questions — a quarter of the paper — is General Awareness with special reference to the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory, covering its history, geography, culture, economy and current affairs. This is the section that most differentiates JKSSB preparation from a generic clerical exam.

You need a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, a typing speed of at least 35 words per minute, and a certificate in computer applications. The age range is generally 18 to 40 years as on the cut-off date, with relaxations for reserved categories as per JKSSB rules.

With 80 questions in 80 minutes you have exactly one minute per question and no spare time, so the paper rewards pace over deliberation. Because each section is an equal 20 marks, clearing the two faster sections — Computers and General Awareness — quickly buys the time needed for Numerical and Reasoning.
