DSSSB Junior Assistant (LDC) Preparation Guide

DSSSB's Junior Assistant / LDC exam is a single 200-question CBT that mirrors the SSC CHSL/LDC pattern closely — familiar territory if you've prepared for other clerical-grade government exams, with one addition: a typing skill test after the written stage.

Exam Pattern

200 objective questions worth 200 marks, attempted in 2 hours, covering General Awareness, Mental Ability & Reasoning, Numerical Ability & Data Interpretation, Hindi, English and Computer. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks; unattempted questions are not penalised.

Preparation Strategy

  1. Build your typing speed from day one, not after the CBT: The Skill Test (35 wpm English / 30 wpm Hindi) is a separate qualifying hurdle after the written exam — candidates who start typing practice only after clearing the CBT often struggle to reach speed in time.
  2. Spread practice evenly across all six areas: With six distinct sections in one paper, a single weak area drags down your overall score more than in exams with fewer, heavier sections.
  3. Respect the 0.25 negative marking: Guess only when you can eliminate at least one option — indiscriminate guessing across 200 questions adds up.
  4. Treat Computer as a quick, scoring section: It's a smaller, well-defined topic area compared to Reasoning or Numerical Ability — efficient to prepare and easy to convert into reliable marks.
  5. Practise bilingual comfort in Hindi and English: Both language sections are tested separately, so strength in one doesn't substitute for the other.
  6. Time yourself at 36 seconds a question: 200 questions in 120 minutes leaves no room for slow sections — full-length timed mocks are the best way to build this pace.
