SSC JE ME Preparation Guide 2026
Overview

Exam Pattern
SSC JE ME has 2 stages:
1. Paper I (CBT)
Objective test: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering — with Mechanical-specific technical questions.
2. Paper II (Descriptive)
Conventional paper on Mechanical Engineering subjects: Thermodynamics, IC Engines, Fluid Mechanics, Theory of Machines, and Strength of Materials.
Detailed Syllabus
- Thermodynamics
- IC Engines
- Fluid Mechanics & Fluid Machinery
- Theory of Machines
- Strength of Materials
- Production Engineering
- General Intelligence & Reasoning
- General Awareness
Marking Scheme
0.25 mark deducted per wrong answer in Paper I.
Eligibility
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institute.
Preparation Strategy
- Learn the Exact Stage Sequence: SSC JE ME has 2 stages (Paper I (CBT) → Paper II (Descriptive)) — know what each stage tests before you start preparing so you don't over-invest in the wrong one first.
- Build the Syllabus Subject by Subject: Work through Thermodynamics, IC Engines, Fluid Mechanics & Fluid Machinery, and the remaining topics one at a time rather than jumping between subjects — depth beats breadth in the early weeks.
- Respect the Negative Marking: 0.25 mark deducted per wrong answer in Paper I. Only attempt a question when you can eliminate at least two options.
- Practice Under Real Conditions: Take full-length mock tests on YourMockTest for the objective stage(s), simulating the real timer, before attempting the actual SSC JE ME.
- Review Every Mistake: After each mock, spend more time reviewing wrong answers than attempting new questions — a repeated mistake in practice is a guaranteed mistake in the real exam.
Move from syllabus to timed practice.
Now that you are familiar with the structural blueprint, take a full-length mock test to establish your benchmark speed, accuracy, and section-switching metrics.
