Overview

SSC JE Civil Engineering is the Civil-discipline track of the SSC Junior Engineer exam, recruiting Civil Engineers into CPWD, MES, and other central departments. It is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

Exam Pattern

SSC JE CE has 2 stages:

1. Paper I (CBT)

Objective test: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering — with Civil-specific technical questions.

2. Paper II (Descriptive)

Conventional paper on Civil Engineering subjects: Building Materials, Estimating & Costing, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Structural Engineering.

Marking Scheme

Eligibility

Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institute.

Preparation Strategy

1. Learn the Exact Stage Sequence: SSC JE CE has 2 stages (Paper I (CBT) → Paper II (Descriptive)) — know what each stage tests before you start preparing so you don't over-invest in the wrong one first.
2. Build the Syllabus Subject by Subject: Work through Building Materials, Estimating, Costing & Valuation, Surveying, and the remaining topics one at a time rather than jumping between subjects — depth beats breadth in the early weeks.
3. Respect the Negative Marking: 0.25 mark deducted per wrong answer in Paper I. Only attempt a question when you can eliminate at least two options.
4. Practice Under Real Conditions: Take full-length mock tests on YourMockTest for the objective stage(s), simulating the real timer, before attempting the actual SSC JE CE.
5. Review Every Mistake: After each mock, spend more time reviewing wrong answers than attempting new questions — a repeated mistake in practice is a guaranteed mistake in the real exam.
