Punjab Police Constable Preparation Guide

PSSSB's Constable recruitment has an unusual two-paper structure: Paper I decides your merit, while Paper II is a separate Punjabi-language paper you must clear on a pass/fail basis, regardless of how well you do on Paper I.

Exam Pattern

Paper I: 100 questions worth 100 marks in 2 hours, decides your rank — General Awareness (35), Quantitative Aptitude (20), Mental Ability & Reasoning (20), English (10), Punjabi (10), Digital Literacy (5). Paper II: 50 questions, 1 hour, qualifying only — you need at least 50% to clear it. No negative marking in either paper.

Preparation Strategy

  1. Don't treat Paper II as an afterthought: It's separate from Paper I's own Punjabi section, and failing to clear its 50% threshold disqualifies you regardless of your Paper I score.
  2. Attempt every question in both papers: With no negative marking anywhere, there's no downside to attempting a question you're unsure about.
  3. Weight your Paper I prep by marks: General Awareness (35 marks) is the single largest section — it deserves proportionally more preparation time than Digital Literacy (5 marks), even though both are "just one section" on paper.
  4. Build Digital Literacy as a quick, scoring section: At only 5 marks, it's a small but easy target — basic computer and digital-service awareness covers it quickly.
  5. Practise Mental Ability and Quantitative Aptitude together: Together they're 40 of Paper I's 100 marks — a substantial, learnable share that rewards structured practice.
  6. Prepare physically in parallel, not after: The Physical Measurement Test and Physical Screening Test (long jump, high jump, running) follow the written stage on a fixed timeline — start conditioning during your written preparation, not after results.

Sectional Notes

General Awareness — Current affairs and general knowledge, with a Punjab-specific component (35 marks, the largest single section).

Mental Ability and Logical Reasoning — Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

English Language — Grammar, comprehension and vocabulary.

Punjabi Language — Grammar, comprehension and vocabulary (tested both within Paper I and in the separate qualifying Paper II).
