ICMR Assistant Preparation Guide 2026
Overview
ICMR Assistant recruits administrative and clerical staff to support the Indian Council of Medical Research and its research institutes. It is conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Exam Pattern
ICMR Assistant has 2 stages:
1. Computer Based Test (CBT)
Objective paper covering General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness.
2. Typing/Skill Test
Typing speed test, required for many Assistant-grade posts.
Detailed Syllabus
- General Intelligence
- English Language
- Quantitative Aptitude
- General Awareness
Eligibility
Bachelor's degree from a recognized university (varies by specific post).
Preparation Strategy
- Learn the Exact Stage Sequence: ICMR Assistant has 2 stages (Computer Based Test (CBT) → Typing/Skill Test) — know what each stage tests before you start preparing so you don't over-invest in the wrong one first.
- Build the Syllabus Subject by Subject: Work through General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and the remaining topics one at a time rather than jumping between subjects — depth beats breadth in the early weeks.
- Attempt Every Question: There is no negative marking for the objective stage, so an educated guess never costs you.
- Practice Under Real Conditions: Take full-length mock tests on YourMockTest for the objective stage(s), simulating the real timer, before attempting the actual ICMR Assistant.
- Review Every Mistake: After each mock, spend more time reviewing wrong answers than attempting new questions — a repeated mistake in practice is a guaranteed mistake in the real exam.
