Bombay High Court Clerk Preparation Guide

The Bombay High Court's Junior Clerk recruitment packs six subjects into a single 60-minute, no-negative-marking screening test — speed and breadth matter more here than depth in any one area.

Exam Pattern

90 objective questions worth 90 marks in 1 hour, covering Marathi, English, General Knowledge, General Intelligence, Arithmetic and Computer Knowledge. No negative marking. The pass mark is 45 out of 90 (50%).

Preparation Strategy

  1. Attempt every question: With no negative marking, there's no reason to leave a question blank.
  2. Build genuine Marathi proficiency, not just conversational fluency: It's tested alongside English at a formal grammar level, and candidates fluent in spoken Marathi still lose marks on written grammar and comprehension.
  3. Treat Computer Knowledge as a quick, scoring section: MS Office basics and general computer fundamentals are finite and efficient to prepare.
  4. Practise Arithmetic at a clerical-exam level: Basic arithmetic and numerical ability, not advanced mathematics, is what this section tests.
  5. Time yourself at 40 seconds a question: 90 questions in 60 minutes is tight — full-length timed practice builds the pace this pattern demands.
  6. Prepare your typing speed alongside the written exam: The English Typing Test follows the screening stage on a fixed timeline — start practising typing early rather than after clearing the screening test.
