HAL Management Trainee Preparation Guide

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited recruits Management Trainees through a single online written test followed by an interview. The written paper carries 85% of the final weightage, and its technical section alone is 100 of the 160 marks — so the exam is, in practice, decided by how well you know your engineering branch.

Exam Pattern

160 objective questions worth 160 marks in 180 minutes:

Engineering Discipline (technical) — 100 questions
General Awareness, English & Reasoning — 60 questions

Preparation Strategy

Treat it as a GATE paper with a general-studies tail: The discipline-specific technical syllabus follows GATE for the corresponding branch. If you are already preparing for GATE, that work transfers directly to the 100-mark section that decides the paper — do not build a separate technical plan.
Protect the technical section's time: Since 100 of 160 marks are technical, budget roughly two-thirds of the 180 minutes there. The paper is not sectionally timed, which makes it easy to overspend on the 60 easier non-technical questions and then rush the part that actually carries your score.
