Question 1

Given below are two statements: one is labelled as Assertion (A) and the other is labelled as Reason (R):

Assertion (A): Technical problems are related to the interpretation of meaning by the receiver as compared to the intended meaning of the sender.

Reason (R): Semantic barriers are related to speech and language.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

  1. AOption (a)

Both (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct explanation of (A)

  2. BOption (b)

Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A)

  3. COption (c)

    (A) is correct but (R) is not correct

  4. DOption (d)

    (A) is not correct but (R) is correct

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (d)D.

(A) is not correct but (R) is correct

Why this answer is correct

The correct answer is '(A) is not correct but (R) is correct'.

Key Points

  • Assertion (A):
  • Technical problems refer to issues in the communication process that affect the transmission and reception of messages.
  • These problems can include noise, signal interference, and other technical barriers that prevent the message from being accurately received.
  • However, they are not directly related to the interpretation of meaning by the receiver.
  • Reason (R):
  • Semantic barriers relate to issues in understanding the meaning of words and language used in communication.
  • This includes differences in language, jargon, and interpretations that can lead to misunderstandings.
  • Explanation:
  • While (R) correctly identifies what semantic barriers are, it does not explain (A) because technical problems are not about interpretation but rather about the physical transmission of the message.

Read the passage and answer the question.

Numbers 91-95 based on it. India has only 3% of the world's land resources and 5% of the world's water resources. Yet India is the second largest food producer in the world and second in production of fruits and vegetables. On the contrary. Indian Medical Council in 2015 reports that 12-13% of the population in India die due to non-availability of nutritious food; and 25% of Indians go to bed without food. Why is there such discrepency in India?

The reasons may be clubbed under three broad classifications First, production of food crops that do not satisfy nutritional needs (nutritional unavailability), second, healthy foods are beyond purchasing power of the poor (unaffordablity), third, weak supply chain and failur of government intervention that still prevents dissection to exercise their right to food (nutritional inaccessability).

Our food production has reached the capacity to provide one third of the popultion with adequate food grains under NFSM. But to ensure nutritional security we have to focus on existing agricultural methodologies. We have to shift cropping pattern from cereals to

nutrient based one that promotes horticulture, coarse grains, pulses and millets Horticulture production has doubled over the years according to NNM.

An Indian has access to only 2455 Kcal/day which is much lower than 3000 Kcal of European countries. FAO/WHO recommends atleast 400 gms of fruits and vegetables perday Indians cannot even manage to get half of the daily target. Government should promote domestic nutrition needs by Government ensuring quality seeds, promotion of integrated pest and disease mangement encourage peri-urban vegetable farming and roof gardens to grow vegetables. School premisis that raise vegetable and greens will have nutritional impact. Recent increase in the minimum support price of pulses and their inclusion in National Food Security Mission is a welcome step. Organic farming should be put forward as an alternative better farming practice. As nutrient dense food is expensive, so food fortification can help it to reach the poor. Non-availability of nutritious food leads directly to poor quality life, loss of productivity, poor mental development, increased health cost and decreased school days. The demographic divide now is turning into demographic liabiblity.

Read the passage and answer the question based on it:

Research around the world shows that child labour and poverty are intimately linked. However, it is also known that the specific circumstances of child labour are influenced by manyother factor. Thus, parental illiteracy, non-accessibility of schools, social and cultural milieu, and ineffective enforcement of legal provisions pertaining to child labour are some of the significant causes of child labour. However, no cause can justify the existence of child labour. There is complete loss of invaluable childhood with near permanent damage to social development. Lack of education forces children into the worst employment prospects as adults.

Although the labour of young children of both sexes is exploited, the plight of the girl child's labourer is worse off. She is a child, a girl, and a labourer. She faces discrimination on all counts - in almost all areas - rural and urban. Girl child labour is prevalent in the following areas:

• Household work

• Agriculture work

• Bonded labour

• Domestic service

Question 7

Which two of the folowing options refer to the factors linked to child labour as stated in the paragraph?

Why this answer is correct

The correct answer is (a) and (b).

Explanation:-

The passage highlights that child labour is intricately connected to poverty and influenced by several factors. These include parental illiteracy, lack of access to schools, social and cultural environments, and poor enforcement of child labour laws. Among these, parental education and the legal system are key determinants. Specifically, educated parents are less likely to send their children to work, while a robust legal framework can significantly reduce child labour by enforcing prohibitions and penalties. Thus, the two factors linked to child labour are parental education and the justice system's effectiveness.

Key Points

  • Acute Renal Failure (ARF):
  • Acute Renal Failure, also known as Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), is a sudden and rapid decline in kidney function.
  • It is characterized by the kidneys' inability to filter waste products from the blood effectively.
  • This condition can lead to the accumulation of waste products and electrolytes in the body, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
  • Increased serum creatinine level:
  • Serum creatinine is a waste product that is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys.
  • Increased levels of serum creatinine in the blood indicate that the kidneys are not functioning properly.
  • This is a primary marker for diagnosing ARF, as it directly reflects the kidneys' ability to filter and remove waste.

Additional Information

  • Elevated blood cholesterol:
  • While elevated cholesterol can be a health concern, it is not a direct indicator of ARF.
  • High cholesterol levels are more commonly associated with cardiovascular diseases.
  • Decreased blood pressure:
  • Although low blood pressure can be a symptom of various conditions, it is not a primary marker for ARF.
  • In some cases, ARF can actually result in high blood pressure due to fluid retention.
  • Decreased bone mass density:
  • Decreased bone mass density is typically associated with conditions like osteoporosis, not ARF.
  • While chronic kidney disease can affect bone health, acute renal failure does not directly lead to decreased bone density.
