Direction: Question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statement and mark the appreciate answer.
How many people are standing between A and B in a straight line of 15 people (
Note:
All are standing in a straight line facing north.)
I. C stand fifth from the left end of the line. A and D are immediate neighbor of C. Only two people stand between C and B.
II. E stands third from the right end of the line.
Only six people stand between D and E. Only one person stands between A and D. D stand exactly between A and B.
- AOption (a)
Data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question
- BOption (b)
Data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question
- COption (c)
Data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
- DOption (d)
Data in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question
- EOption (e)
Data in both the statements I and II tighter are necessary to answer the question.

Correct answer
Data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question
Why this answer is correct
From Statement I:
Straight line of 15 people
-
C stand fifth from the left end of the line, A and D are immediate neighbour of C.
-
Only two people stand between C and B.
As we can see in above diagram’s there are two cases so position of A and B is not definite hence, we can’t determine how many people are between A and B in straight-line of 15 people.
From Statement II:
Straight line of 15 people
-
E stands third from the right end of the line.
-
Only six people stand between D and E.
-
Only one person stands between A and D. D stand exactly between A and B.
-
D stand exactly between A and B.
From above diagram we can see that there are 3 people between A and B.
Hence, only statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
