Why this answer is correct

Ratio of Present ages of Sameer and Prashant = 2 : 3

Assume;

Age of Sameer = 2x

Age of Prashant = 3x

After 6 years;

Age of Sameer = 2x + 6

Age of Prashant = 3x + 6

According to question;

(2x + 6) : (3x + 6) = 4 : 5

(2x + 6) × 5 = 4 × (3x + 6)

10x + 30 = 12x + 24

12x - 10x = 30 - 24

2x = 6

Answer: (a)A.

40

Why this answer is correct

Calculation:

LCM of 12, 16, 24 = 48

So, the required number x will be in the form of 48m, where m is a natural number

According to question:

Least number which when divided by 13 the remainder is 1

The number be x,

(x - 1) is divisible by 13

Now we can check one by one by putting m = 1, 2, 3, 4......... which will be the smallest number divisible by 13

taking m = 1

we get 48; 47 which is not divisible by 13

taking m = 2

we get 96; 95 which is not divisible by 13

taking m = 3

we get 144; 143 which is divisible by 13

⇒ Now 144 divided by 52. the remainder is 40

∴ The remainder is 40.

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (d)D.

8

Why this answer is correct

Concept:

To find the unit digit of any number, find the cyclicity of the unit digit of the given number.

Cyclicity = Number of times after which the unit digit starts repeating itself when a number undergoes power operation

Example: Cyclicity of 2 = 4 (21 = 2, 22 = 4, 23 = 8, 24 = 16, 25 = 32)

Same way, Cyclicity of 4 = 4

Calculation:

x = 57492 × 74231 × 2359

Divide the power by 4 and write the remainder in the place of power.

⇒ x = 570 × 743 × 233

considering only unit digits after simplifying the power:

⇒ x = 1 × 4 × 7 = 28

∴ The unit digit of x is 8.

Question 43

  1. AOption (a)

    660 cm2

  2. BOption (b)

    550 cm2

  3. COption (c)

    308 cm2

  4. DOption (d)

    352 cm2

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

660 cm2

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Solid rectangular metal block of length = 16 cm

Solid rectangular metal block of breadth = 11 cm

Solid rectangular metal block of height = 7 cm

Solid right circular cylinder of height = 8 cm

Concept used:

If we melt this cuboid (solid rectangular metal block) and cast in the cylinder of height 7 cm

Then the volume of cuboid = volume of cylinder

Formula used:

The volume of the cuboid = l × b × h

Here, l → Length, b → Breadth, h → Height

Volume of cylinder = πr2h

Total surface area of cylinder = 2πr(r + h)

r = radius of the cylinder

h = height of cylinder

Calculation:

According to the question,

Volume of cuboid = Volume of cylinder

⇒ l × b × h = πr2h

⇒ 16 × 11 × 7 = 22/7 × 8 × r2

⇒ r2 = 49

⇒ r = 7 cm

Now,

Total surface area of cylinder = 2πr(r + h)

⇒ 2 × (22/7) × 7 × (7 + 8)

⇒ 2 × (22/7) × 7 × 15

⇒ 44 × 15 = 660 cm2

∴ The total surface area of the cylinder is 660 cm2.

Question 44

The cost prices of articles A and B are in the ratio x : y. In the next two years, the price of A is increased by 10% and that of B is decreased by 20%. If after two years, their prices are in the ratio 10 : 7, then what is the value of 80y−2x60y+6x\dfrac{80y - 2x}{60y + 6x} ?

  1. AOption (a)

    131691 \dfrac{31}{69}

  2. BOption (b)

    113171 \dfrac{13}{17}

  3. COption (c)

    13171 \dfrac{3}{17}

  4. DOption (d)

    13691 \dfrac{3}{69}

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

13171 \dfrac{3}{17}

Why this answer is correct

The cost price of A = xp

The cost price of B = yp

After two years;

Cost Price of A = 110% of xp = 11xp/10

Cost Price of B = 80% of yp = 4yp/5

After two years, their prices are in the ratio 10 : 7

⇒ (11xp/10)/(4yp/5) = 10/7

⇒ (11xp × 5)/(10 × 4yp) = 10/7

⇒ 11x/8y = 10/7

⇒ x/y = (10 × 8)/(7× 11)

⇒ x/y = 80/77

Now;

Put x = 80t, and y = 77t

=80y−2x60y+6x= \dfrac{80y - 2x}{60y + 6x}

  2. BOption (b)

    8% loss

  3. COption (c)

    8% profit

  4. DOption (d)

    71127%7 \dfrac{11}{27} \% profit

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

71127%7 \dfrac{11}{27} \% loss

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Marked Price : Cost Price = 5 : 3

Marked Price: Selling Price = 9 : 5

So,

Marked Price : Cost Price : Selling Price = 45 : 27 : 25

Let;

Cost Price = 27x

Selling Price = 25x

Cost Price > Selling Price

So, loss has been occured.

Loss Percent = (Loss × 100)/Cost Price

Loss = Cost Price - Selling Price

Loss = 27x - 25x = 2x

Loss Percent = (2x × 100)/27x

Loss Percent = 200/27 %

Loss Percent = 71127%7 \dfrac{11}{27} \%

Hence, option (1) is the correct answer.

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

12

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Avin spends 70% of his income. If his income increases by x% and his expenses increases by 10%.

Concept used:

Income - Expenses = Saving

Calculation:

Let the income be 100p

According to the question:

Avin spends 70% of his income

Expenses = 70p

⇒ 100p - 70p = 30p

Savings = 30p

Income increases by x%

⇒ 100p + xp = (100 + x)p

Expenses increases by 10%

⇒ 10% = 1/10

Increase of  10% = 11/10

⇒ 70p × 11/10

⇒ 77p

Saving increased by 50/3%

⇒ New saving = 50/3% of 30p + 30p

= 35p

New savings = (100 + x)p - 77p

⇒ 23p + xp

Now;

⇒ 23p + xp = 35p

⇒ 23 + x = 35

⇒ x = 35 - 23

⇒ x = 12%

∴ His savings are increased by 12%.

Question 47

A field is an equilateral triangle. The minimum distances of its sides from any point inside the field are 16 m, 20 m and 22 m. What is the area of the field? (approximate to an integer)

    2040

  2. BOption (b)

    1964

  3. COption (c)

    1942

  4. DOption (d)

    1840

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

1942

Why this answer is correct

Let x be the side of an equilateral triangle.

Therefore, its area = 34x2 {\sqrt{3} \over 4} x^2

Let the triangle is ABC and D is the point inside the triangle.

Now;

Area of ABC = Area of ADB + Area of BDC + Area of CDA

34x2=12×x×16+12×x×20+12×x×22{\sqrt{3} \over 4} x^2 = {\frac{1}{2} \times x \times 16} + {\frac{1}{2} \times x \times 20} + {\frac{1}{2} \times x \times 22}

⇒ 34x2=12×x×(16+20+22){\sqrt{3} \over 4} x^2 = {\frac{1}{2} \times x \times (16 + 20 + 22)}

⇒ 34x2=12×x×58{\sqrt{3} \over 4} x^2 = {\frac{1}{2} \times x \times 58}

⇒ 34x2=x×29{\sqrt{3} \over 4} x^2 = { x \times 29}

⇒ x=(29×4)3x = \frac{(29 \times 4)}{\sqrt{3}}cm

Now;

Therefore, its area = 34x2 {\sqrt{3} \over 4} x^2

= 34×(29×4)322 {\sqrt{3} \over 4} \times{\frac{(29 \times 4)}{\sqrt{3}^2}}^2

= 1942.20 = 1942 (Approx)

Hence, option (3) is the correct answer.

Question 48

A sum of Rs. 50460 is divided into two parts A and B in such a way that the amount of A after 8 years and that of B after 10 years is equal to compound interest at 5% per annum, while the interest is compounded annually. What is the difference between A and B?

  4. DOption (d)

    2640

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

2460

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Total share of A and B = Rs. 50460

The amount of A after 8 years and that of B after 10 years = Compound interest at 5% per annum

Formula used:

A = [P(1 + R/100)T]

Where, A = Amount, P = Principal

R= Rate , T = Time

Am/An = Am - n

Calculation:

Let  A's share be Rs. x

Then, B's share be Rs.(50460 - x)

According to the question:

x(1 + 5/100)8 = (50460 - x)(1 + 5/100)10

⇒ x/(50460 - x) = (1 + 5/100)10/(1 + 5/100)8

⇒ x/(50460 - x) = (1 + 5/100)2

⇒ x/(50460 - x) = (21/20)2

⇒ x/(50460 - x) = 441/400

⇒ 50460 × 441 - 441x = 400x

⇒ 50460 × 441 = 841x

⇒ x = Rs. 26460

Now, A's share = 26460

B's share = 50460 - 26460 = 24000

Difference between A and B = 26460 - 24000 = 2460

∴ The difference between A and B is Rs. 2460.

Question 49

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (b)B.

10

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Time taken by boat to cover 4km upstream and 6 km downstream = 1 hrs.

Time taken by boat to cover 6 km upstream and 4 km downstream = 1 hrs 5 minutes

Concept Used:

If 'b' is the speed of a boat and 's' is the speed of a stream then,

Upstream speed of boat = b - s

Downstream speed of boat = b + s

Formula used:

Time = Distance/Speed

Calculation:

Let the speed of the boat be 'b' and the speed of the stream be 's'.

According to the question,

{4/(b - s)} + {6/(b + s)} = 1      ----(i)

{6/(b - s)} + {4/(b + s)} = 1 + 5/60 = 13/12      ----(ii)

Let us put 1/(b - s) = P and 1/(b + s) = Q in equation (i) and (ii),

So,

4P + 6Q = 1      ----(iii)

6P + 4Q = 13/12      ----(iv)

Multiplying equation (iv) by 2 and Multiplying equation (iii) by 3 then, subtracting equation (iv) from equation (iii), we get

(12P + 18Q) - (12P + 8Q) = 3 - 13/6

⇒ 12P + 18Q - 12P - 10Q = 5/6

⇒ 10Q = 5/6

⇒ Q = 1/12

Putting the value of Q in equation (iii), we get

4P + 6Q = 1

⇒ 4P + 6 × 1/12 = 1

⇒ 4P = 1 - 1/2 = 1/2

⇒ 4P = 1/2

⇒ P = 1/8

So, b - s = 8 & b + s = 12

So, b = 10 km/hr and s = 2 km/hr.

∴ The speed of boat is 10 km/hr.

Question 50

The ratio of spirit and water in three solutions are 2 : 3, 3 : 4 and 4 : 5 respectively and they are mixed in the ratio 5 : 3 : 2. 318 ml of water is added to 1.26 liters of the solution thus obtained. The ratio of spirit and water in the final solution is

  1. AOption (a)

    1 : 2

  2. BOption (b)

    2 : 3

  3. COption (c)

    4 : 5

  4. DOption (d)

    3 : 4

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

1 : 2

Why this answer is correct

Calculation:

According to the question,

In vessels A,

Spirit = 5 × 2/5 = 2

Water = 5 × 3/5 = 3

In vessels B,

Spirit = 3 × 3/7= 9/7

Water = 3 × 4/7 = 12/7

In vessels C,

Spirit = 2 × 4/9 = 8/9

Water = 2 × 5/9 = 10/9

Total spirit = 2 + 9/7 + 8/9 = 263/63

Total water = 3 + 12/7 + 10/9 = 367/63

Ratio (in final solution) = S : W= 263/63 : 367/63 = 263 : 367

Now, let the spirit in solution be 263x litres

Let the water in solution be 367x litres

Then, final solution = 263x + 367x = 630x

According to the question,

630x = 1260 ml   [1 lt = 1000ml]

x = 2 ml

Then Spirit = 2 × 263 = 526 ml

Water = 2 × 367 = 734 ml

Extra water = 318 ml

Total water in the new mixture = 734 + 318 = 1052

So, Required ratio = 526 : 1052 = 1 : 2

∴ The ratio of spirit and water in the final solution is 1 : 2.

  4. DOption (d)

    Rs. 12800

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

Rs. 11600

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Cost Price of 4 fans and 9 watches = Rs. 26800

Profit = Rs. 3760

Formula Used:

Profit% = (SP - CP)/CP × 100

Loss% = (CP - SP)/CP × 100

where CP → Cost Price, SP → Selling Price

Calculations:

Let the cost price of 1 fan be x and 1 watch be y

4x + 9y = 26800      ----(1)

Selling Price of fan = 1.1 × 4x = 4.4x

Selling Price of watches = 1.2 × 9y = 10.8y

So now

4.4x + 10.8y = 26800 + 3760 = 30560      ----(2)

Solving (1) and (2) simultaneously

x = 4000

y = 1200

now calculating

 total cost price of 2 fans and 3 watches = 2x + 3y = (2 × 4000) + (3 × 1200)

 total cost price of 2 fans and 3 watches = 8000 + 3600 = 11600

∴  total cost price of 2 fans and 3 watches is Rs. 11600

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (b)B.

20%

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Total distance = 360 km

Speed = 30km/hr

Formula used:

Speed = Distance ÷ Time

Time = Distance/Speed

Calculation:

Time = 360/30 = 12 hours.

He covers total distance of 360 km at a speed of 30 km/h at time 12 hours.

According to the question,

Every day he reaches his destination at five o'clock in the evening,

Then, clearly he started walking five o'clock in the morning because total covered a distance in 12 hours.

Now,

He started walking late by 2 hours, but still reached five o'clock in the evening,

⇒ five o'clock + 2 hours = 7 o'clock in the morning but still reached five o'clock in the evening, total covered a distance in 10 hours.

According to the question,

Let his speed increased be x km/hr.

360/(x + 30) = 10

⇒ x + 30 = 36

⇒ x = 6 km/hr

Increase his speed = 6 km/h

Required percentage = (6/30) × 100 = 20%

∴ Required percentage is 20%.

Question 54

The average of fifteen numbers is 72.4. The average of the first six numbers is 69.5 and that of the next six numbers is 74.5. The 13th number is 8 less than the 14th number and the 13th number is 8 more than the 15th number. The average of 13th and 15th numbers is:

  1. AOption (a)

    78

  2. BOption (b)

    71.6

  3. COption (c)

    70

  4. DOption (d)

    73.5

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

70

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Average of 15 numbers = 72.4

Average of first 6 numbers = 69.5

Average of last 6 numbers = 74.5

The 13th number is 8 less than the 14th number and the 13th number is 8 more than the 15th number.

Concept used:

Sum of numbers = Average × Number of numbers

Solution:

Total sum of 15 numbers = 15 × 72.4 = 1086

Sum of first 6 numbers = 69.5 × 6 = 417

Sum of last 6 numbers = 74.5 × 6 = 447

Now, Sum of first 6 numbers and last six numbers = (417 + 447) = 864

So, Sum of (13th + 14th + 15th) number = (1086 - 864) = 222

According to the questions,

13th number = 14th number - 8

and 13th number = 15th number + 8

Let the 14th number be x.

13th number = x - 8 equation (1)

x - 8 = 15th number + 8

15th number = x - 16 equation (2)

so, (x + x - 8 + x - 16) = 222

⇒ 3x = 222 + 24

⇒ 3x = 246

⇒ x = 82

So, 13th number = 82 - 8

= 74

15th number = 82 - 16 = 66

Thus the average of 13th and 15th numbers = (74 + 66)/2

⇒ 140/2 = 70

    Rs. 224

  4. DOption (d)

    Rs. 218

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (b)B.

Rs. 248

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Two equal annual installments(x) = Rs. 1764

Formula used:

Compound interest = Amount - Principal

P=[X1+R100+X[1+R100]2]P = \left[ {\frac{X}{{1 + \frac{R}{{100}}}} + \frac{X}{{{{\left[ {1 + \frac{R}{{100}}} \right]}^2}}} } \right]

Calculation:

According to the question,

P=[17641+5100+1764[1+5100]2]P = \left[ {\frac{1764}{{1 + \frac{5}{{100}}}} + \frac{1764}{{{{\left[ {1 + \frac{5}{{100}}} \right]}^2}}} } \right]

⇒ P=[1764×2021+1764×400441]P = \left[ {\frac{1764 × 20}{21} + \frac{1764 × 400}{441 } } \right]

⇒ P=[1764×2021+1764×400441]P = \left[ {\frac{1764 × 20}{21} + \frac{1764 × 400}{441 } } \right]

⇒ P = 1680 + 1600 = Rs. 3280

Total amount = Rs. 1764 × 2 = Rs. 3528

Compound interest = Amount - Principal

⇒ 3528 - 3280 = Rs. 248

∴ The interest paid in this scheme is Rs. 248.

Question 57

A and B work alternately for a day to do a piece of work and B starts the work. A alone can complete the work in 48 days. If the work is completed in 111311 \dfrac{1}{3} days, then in how many days can B alone complete the work?

  4. DOption (d)

    8148 \dfrac{1}{4}  days

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

6346 \dfrac{3}{4}  days

Why this answer is correct

Calculation:

A alone can finish the work in 48 days

A’s one day work = 1/48

A and B complete the whole work in = 111311\frac{1}{3} days

A and B work on alternate days, with B beginning so, we can say B will work only 6 days A will work only 1113−6;=;51311\frac{1}{3} - 6{\rm{;}} = {\rm{;}}5\frac{1}{3} days

If A’s one day work = 1/48 of work A complete in = 1 days

A’s 5135\frac{1}{3} days work = 148×513=148×163=19\frac{1}{{48}}{\rm{}} \times {\rm{}}5\frac{1}{3}{\rm{}} = {\rm{}}\frac{1}{{48}}{\rm{}} \times {\rm{}}\frac{{16}}{3}{\rm{}} = {\rm{}}\frac{1}{9}

Remaining work = 1 – [1/9] = 8/9

B complete 8/9 work in = 6 days

⇒ B complete whole work in = 6 × [9/8] = 27/4 days

∴ B alone complete the work is 6346 \dfrac{3}{4}days.

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (d)D.

Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder

Calculation:

According to the question,

z = 9 × 2 + 6 = 24

y = 7 × 24 + 4 = 172

x = 5 × 172 + 2 = 862

Now, divisors is reversed

862 ÷ 9, quotient = 95, and remainder = 7

95 ÷ 7, quotient = 13, and remainder = 4

13 ÷ 5, quotient = 2, and remainder = 3

∴ The remainder is 7, 4, and 3, if the order of the divisors is reversed.
