Everything you need to know about the IERT Diploma Entrance (Engineering) exam structure, eligibility requirements, rules, and timelines.
The IERT entrance exam is a written test conducted by the Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology (IERT), Prayagraj for admission to its 3-year diploma engineering programmes. The exam covers Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry with 25 questions each (75 total) and no negative marking. IERT is distinct from JEECUP — it is an institution-specific entrance for IERT Prayagraj only.
No, there is no negative marking in the IERT entrance exam. Each correct answer earns +1 mark. Incorrect or unanswered questions carry 0 marks. You should attempt all 75 questions since there is nothing to lose by answering every question.
Candidates must have passed Class 10 (High School) with Science and Mathematics from a recognised board. A minimum of 35% aggregate marks is generally required. SC/ST candidates may receive a marks relaxation as per IERT norms. UP domicile candidates are given preference during seat allotment.
The IERT entrance exam has 75 questions in total: 25 questions each from Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Each question carries 1 mark, making the total 75 marks. The exam duration is approximately 3 hours.
The IERT entrance syllabus is at the NCERT Class 9–10 level. Mathematics covers Number System, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Mensuration. Physics covers Motion, Work-Energy, Heat, Light, Sound, and Electricity-Magnetism. Chemistry covers Atomic Structure, Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding, Acids-Bases-Salts, Metals, Carbon Compounds, and Chemical Reactions.
IERT conducts its own separate entrance exam for admission specifically to IERT Prayagraj, while JEECUP (Joint Entrance Examination Council UP) is a statewide test for all UP government and private polytechnics. IERT's exam is offline (pen-and-paper), whereas JEECUP is online (CBT). Candidates can apply to both independently.
Free IERT previous year question papers from 2018 to 2022 are available on YourMockTest at yourmocktest.com/exams/engineering/iert. You can take full-length mock tests with instant score reports, section-wise analysis, and detailed solutions for each question.
IERT Prayagraj offers 3-year diploma programmes in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Information Technology.
The IERT entrance exam is conducted offline in a pen-and-paper OMR format at the IERT campus in Prayagraj. Unlike JEECUP, it is not a computer-based test.
The most effective strategy is to thoroughly complete NCERT Class 9 and 10 textbooks for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Then solve IERT previous year papers (2018–2022) available free on YourMockTest. Since there is no negative marking, practise attempting all 75 questions within 3 hours.
