The correct answer is 'C'.

  • Why there is a gain or loss of day?
  • 180o E is GMT +12hrs and 180o W is GMT -12hrs, hence the difference between 180o E and 180o W is 24hrs.
  • That is time difference on either side of IDL is 24hours, so the date changes as soon as one crosses IDL.
  • Why it passes through the water body only?
  • If the IDL passes through the land, then two regions of the same Island country or Island group would fall under different date zones. Thus, to avoid any confusion of date, IDL is drawn from the water body only, that's why it is in the Zig-zag manner.

Origami papercraft is associated with which country?

  1. AOption (a)

    Italy

  2. BOption (b)

    France

  3. COption (c)

    Phillipines

  4. DOption (d)

    Japan

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (d)D.

Japan

Why this answer is correct

  • Origami - Ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper"  is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture.
  • In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.
  • Modern origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper. Origami folders often use the Japanese word kirigami to refer to designs which use cuts.

Additional Information

  • In Japan, the earliest unambiguous reference to a paper model is in a short poem by Ihara Saikaku in 1680 which mentions a traditional butterfly design used during Shinto weddings.
  • Folding filled some ceremonial functions in Edo period Japanese culture; noshi were attached to gifts, much like greeting cards are used today. This developed into a form of entertainment; the first two instructional books published in Japan are clearly recreational.
  • In the early 1900s, Akira Yoshizawa, Kosho Uchiyama, and others began creating and recording original origami works. Akira Yoshizawa in particular was responsible for a number of innovations, such as wet-folding and the Yoshizawa–Randlett diagramming system, and his work inspired a renaissance of the art form. During the 1980s a number of folders started systematically studying the mathematical properties of folded forms, which led to a rapid increase in the complexity of origami models.

Question 51

If the speed of A, B, and C starts walking on a circular ground with 36 km/h, 54km/h, and 18 km/h respectively. If the length of the circular ground is 1200 m then find after how much time they meet at the starting point again.

  1. AOption (a)

    120 seconds

  2. BOption (b)

    240 seconds

  3. COption (c)

    180 seconds

  4. DOption (d)

    360 seconds

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (b)B.

240 seconds

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Speed of A = 36 km/hr = 36 × 5/18 = 10 m/sec

Speed of B = 54 km/hr = 54 × 5/18 = 15 m/sec

Speed of C = 18 km/hr = 18 × 5/18 = 5 m/sec

Formula used:

Speed = Distance/Time

Calculation:

Time taken by A to complete 1 round = 1200/10 = 120 seconds

Time taken by B to complete 1 round = 1200/15 = 80 seconds

Time taken by C to complete 1 round = 1200/5 = 240 seconds

∴ The meeting time will be LCM of (120, 80, 240) i.e = 240 seconds

Question 52

    15 days

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

10 days

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Time taken by X to complete the work = 10 days

Time taken by Y to complete the work = 15 days

They both work together for 2 days

Formula used:

Efficiency = Total work/Time taken

Calculation:

LCM of 10 and 15 = 30 = Total work

Efficiency of X = 30/10 units/day

⇒ 3 units/day

Efficiency of Y = 30/15 units/day

⇒ 2 units/day

Total work done by X and Y together in 2 days = (3 + 2) × 2 units

⇒ 10 units

Work remaining = (30 – 10) units

⇒ 20 units

Time taken by Y to complete the work = 20/2 udays

⇒ 10 days

∴ Time taken by Y to complete the remaining work is 10 days

Question 53

If the speed of A is 45 km/h and the speed of B is 60 km/h. A starts at 9 ∶ 00 A.M., and B starts at 10 ∶ 00 A.M. in the opposite direction of A. If they both meet at the half of total distance then find the distance covered by A in the journey.

  4. DOption (d)

    120 km

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

180 km

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Speed of A = 45 km/hr

Speed of B = 60 km/hr

A starts at 9 ∶ 00 AM and B starts at 10 ∶ 00 AM

They meet at half distance while travelling in the opposite direction

Concept used:

Distance = Speed × Time

Calculation:

Let the time taken by B to reach half the distance be x hours

Time taken by A to reach half the distance will be x hours + 1 hour = (x + 1) hours

As, they have traveled half distance, i.e they have traveled equal distance

Half distance travelled by A = 45 × (x + 1)

Half distance traveled by B = 60 × x

45x + 45 = 60x

⇒ 15x = 45

⇒ x = 3

Distance travelled by A = 45 × (3 + 1) = 45 × 4 = 180

∴ Distance traveled by A is 180 km

Formula used:

Sum of ages = Average age × Number of persons

Calculation:

Sum of ages of 2 grandparents = (75 × 2) years

⇒ 150 years

Sum of age of 3 parents = (45 × 3) years

⇒ 135 years

Sum of ages of 4 grandchildren = (25 × 4) years

⇒ 100 years

Total age of family = (150 + 135 + 100) years

⇒ 385 years

∴ Total age of family is 385 years

  3. COption (c)

    700

  4. DOption (d)

    620

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

660

Why this answer is correct

Given:

40% girls and 92.5% girls pay fees

60% boys and 85% of boys pay fees

Calculation:

Let the total number of the students be 100

Number of girls = 40

Number of girls paid fees = 92.5% of 40 = 37

Number of boys = 60

Number of boys paid fees = 85% of 60 = 51

Number of student that didn't paid the fees = 100 - (37 + 51) = 12

And according to question,

12 = 180

⇒ 1 = 15

So the number of students = 15 × 100 = 1500

Number of students pay fees = 15 × 88 = 1320

∴ The number of students that gets scholarship = (1/2) × 1320 = 660

Question 57

There are two siblings in the family A's pocket money is 30% of the total amount and if he spends 20% then his saving Rs. 144. then find the saving of B if he spends 50% and his pocket money is 20% of the total amount.

    Rs. 60

  2. BOption (b)

    Rs. 50

  3. COption (c)

    Rs. 120

  4. DOption (d)

    Rs. 80

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

Rs. 60

Why this answer is correct

Given:

A's pocket money 30% of the total amount and expense = 20% of its pocket money

A's saving = Rs. 144

B's pocket money = 20% of total amount and expense = 50% of its pocket money

Calculation:

Let the total amount be 100

So pocket money of A = 30

A's expenses = 20% of 30 = 6

Saving of A = 30 - 6 = 24

But according to the question,

24 = Rs. 144

⇒ 1 = Rs. 6

So the total amount = 100 × 6 = Rs. 600

Pocket money of B = 20% of 600 = 120

Expense of B = 50% of 120 = Rs. 60

∴ Saving of B = 120 - 60 = Rs. 60

Alternate Method

Let total amount be Rs x.

Saving of A = 144 = x × 30% × 80%

x = Rs 600

Saving of B = x × 20% × 50% = 600 × 1/10

Saving of B is Rs 60.

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

9.09%

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Total number of pens = 180

Rate of a pen = Rs. 120 per pen

Expenditure on Transportation and packaging = Rs. 2160

Marked price of each pen = Rs. 150

Discount = 4%

Formula used:

Profit% = (Profit/CP) × 100%

SP = MP × [(100 – Discount%)/100]

Calculation:

Cost of 180 pens = Rs. (180 × 120)

⇒ Rs. 21600

Total cost = Rs. (21600 + 2160)

⇒ Rs. 23,760

Marked price of 180 pens = Rs. (150 × 180)

⇒ Rs. 27000

SP = RS. 27000 × (96/100)

⇒ Rs. 25,920

Gain = Rs. (25,920 – 23,760)

⇒ Rs. 2160

Gain% = Rs. (2160/23,760) × 100%

⇒ 9.09%

∴ The overall gain percentage is 9.09%

Question 64

If the ratio of A ∶ B is 3 ∶ 6 and ratio of B ∶ C is 7 ∶ 28, then find the ratio of A ∶ B ∶ C.

  1. AOption (a)

    3 ∶ 7 ∶ 28

  2. BOption (b)

    1 ∶ 2 ∶ 8

  3. COption (c)

    2 ∶ 1 ∶ 8

  4. DOption (d)

    6 ∶ 7 ∶ 28

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (b)B.

1 ∶ 2 ∶ 8

Why this answer is correct

Shortcut Trick

Simplify ratios first: A ∶ B = 3 ∶ 6 = 1 ∶ 2 and B ∶ C = 7 ∶ 28 = 1 ∶ 4.

Make B common: Multiply (1 ∶ 2) by 1 and (1 ∶ 4) by 2.

A ∶ B = 1 ∶ 2 and B ∶ C = 2 ∶ 8.

Combined ratio A ∶ B ∶ C = 1 ∶ 2 ∶ 8.

∴ The correct answer is 1 ∶ 2 ∶ 8.

Alternate Method

Given:

Ratio A ∶ B = 3 ∶ 6

Ratio B ∶ C = 7 ∶ 28

Calculations:

⇒ A/B = 3/6 = 1/2

⇒ B/C = 7/28 = 1/4

⇒ To combine, we need the value of B to be the same in both ratios.

⇒ LCM of B values (2 and 1) is 2.

⇒ A ∶ B = 1 ∶ 2

⇒ B ∶ C = (1 × 2) ∶ (4 × 2) = 2 ∶ 8

⇒ Therefore, A ∶ B ∶ C = 1 ∶ 2 ∶ 8

∴ The correct answer is 1 ∶ 2 ∶ 8.

Additional Information

Compounding of Ratios

To combine two ratios (a ∶ b) and (b ∶ c), multiply the terms to make the common variable 'b' equal in both sets.

Simplification Rule

A ratio remains unchanged if both its terms are multiplied or divided by the same non-zero number.

Compound Ratio

The compound ratio of (a ∶ b) and (c ∶ d) is (ac ∶ bd).

Question 65

A sum of Rs. 7000 is invested in a bank at simple interest, after 3 years he invested Rs. 3000 more and after 8 years he earned total interest of Rs. 4970. What will be the rate of interest at which he invested the sum?

View answer & explanation

Correct answer

Answer: (a)A.

7%

Why this answer is correct

Given:

7000 invested for first 3 years

After 3 years 3000 more invested

Total interest after 8 years = 4970

Formula used:

Simple interest = (Principal × Rate × Time)/100

Calculation:

Let the rate of interest be R% per annum

So according to question,

(7000 × R × 3)/100 + (10000 × R × 5)/100 = 4970

⇒ 210R + 500R = 4970

⇒ 710R = 4970

⇒  R = 7%

∴ Rate of interest = 7%

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

Rs. 30,000

Why this answer is correct

Given:

Average salary of 6 person = Rs. 15000

Average salary of first 5 person = Rs. 12000

Formula used:

Average = Sum of Total observation/Number of observation

Calculation:

Total salary of 6 persons = 15000 × 6

⇒ Rs. 90000

Total salary of first 5 person = 12000 × 5

⇒ Rs. 60000

So, The salary of 6th person = 90000 - 60000

⇒ Rs. 30000

∴ The salary of the 6th person is Rs. 30000.

Correct answer

Answer: (d)D.

D

Why this answer is correct

On observing the figure carefully, we get:

Figure A:

Here, the smiley’s lips and the arrow are facing each other in the figure.

Figure B:

Here, the smiley’s lips and the arrow are facing each other in the figure.

Figure C:

Here, the smiley’s lips and the arrow are facing each other in the figure.

Figure D:

Here, the smiley’s lips and the arrow are not facing each other in the figure.

The smiley’s lips and the arrow are facing each other in all the figures except figure D where it is not facing each other.

Hence, the correct answer is "Figure (D)".

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

C

Why this answer is correct

The logic followed here is:

1)

- The open corner of the partial circle and the longer end of the diagonal strip are facing each other.

2)

  • The open corner of the partial circle and the longer end of the diagonal strip are facing each other.

3)

  • The open corner of the partial circle and the longer end of the diagonal strip are facing opposite to each other.

4)

  • The open corner of the partial circle and the longer end of the diagonal strip are facing each other.

Except figure C where the shorter end of the diagonal strip is facing the open corner of the partial circle.

Hence, figure (C) is the correct answer.

Correct answer

Answer: (c)C.

Why this answer is correct

The logic followed here is;

  1. Two consecutive figures are interchanging their position. Here Triangle and moon are interchanging their position with each other also, hexagon and star are interchanging.

  2. Two alternate figures are interchanging their position. Here moon and star, and triangle and hexagon are interchanging their position.

Again interchange of consecutive figures and then alternate figures and so on.

From above arrangement we get the figure,

Hence, option 3 is the correct answer.

Answer: (b)B.

Why this answer is correct

The pattern followed here is:

  1. In each step, the circle is rotating 45º, 90º, 135º, 180º, and finally 225º clockwise.

  2. Triangle in each step is rotating 45º, 90º, 135º, 180º, and finally 225º anticlockwise.

The image which complete the series is shown below:

Hence, the correct answer is "Option (2)".

Answer: (d)D.

Why this answer is correct

We have to check the options:

Figure A:

Here, there are 5 five square bracket.

Figure B:

Here, there are 4 square bracket and 1 round bracket.

Figure C:

Here, there are 3 square bracket and 2 round bracket.

Figure D:

Here, there are 2 square bracket and 3 round bracket.

Figure E:

Here, there are 1 square bracket and 4 round bracket.

In each step, one square bracket changes into a round bracket with its open ends facing the opposite direction.

Hence the correct answer is "option (4)".
