Comprehension:
Read the given passage and answer the question that follows.
Fear can be a foe or an ally, and most often that’s up to each of us. We usually see it as a threat that only brave people can overcome. But fear is a signal that we need to pay attention to something. It can also be an incredible opportunity for growth, and might even save our life. Many are fearful of fear itself, but feeling fear is not abnormal and is definitely not always a sign of weakness. In fact, a lack of fear in certain individuals has been shown to be a sign of serious mental imbalance or even brain damage.
Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that a virtue consisted of finding an appropriate middle ground between two extremes. Courage is the mean between cowardice and rashness. Courageous people are both, fearful and bold – they act at the right time, in the right manner and with the right motivation.
Living fearlessly is not about not being afraid, but learning to engage with fear. Fearlessness doesn't mean ignoring your problems with an “oh it's nothing” approach, nor is it about feeling rashly invincible either. John Daido Loori, who was a Zen Buddhist teacher, had said, “Fearlessness is empowered by fear. Fearlessness is born of fear.”
