Some words may be highlighted for you. Pay careful attention. Video games are almost second nature to modern children and they are more comfortable playing them. Playing video games can have many different effects (both positive as well as negative) on children. Some of these effects include increasing hand-eye coordination and increasing dexterity mental skills; a decreased interest in other activities such as studies and sports; and a very negative effect of inducing violence. One of the most positive effects of video games is increasing the dexterity of a child and improving his or her hand-eye coordination. As mentioned earlier, the new video games that are coming out are extremely complex and they involve the movement of many different kinds of sticks and buttons on the controllers. These can be very good for children as they learn to make fast connections between what they see and what their hands and fingers are doing. This allows them to think quickly and improves their reflexes. The newest games are very precision-based and it takes very minute and accurate movements for the children to control the characters. This helps in making the children much more adept at handling and operating real-life machinery and objects. Another effect that playing videogames have on children is that they tend to get addicted to playing these games and give them the foremost priority. This takes the children away from their other responsibilities, such as doing house chores, homework, and other physical activities. Children also end up spending more time playing videogames in front of television screens than playing real and actual sports that involve physical exercise. This in turn can have many health-related problems for the children, as they can get obese if they don't exercise and stay home playing video games. This is perhaps the worst negative effect that videogames can have on children. Parents and educators all over the world are concerned about this phenomenon and they are urging the children to not spend so much time playing video games. Many new video game consoles, such as the new Nintendo WII, have come out with games that require users to actually get up and move. Many researchers have talked about the effects of viewing violence in the media and how it affects children. Videogames take this to another level, where the children are actually participating in being violent in the video games. There are many games out there that allow the children to play arm bearing characters who can kill anyone that they want, steal cars, and commit many different kinds of crime.

Read the passage and answer the questions that follow. Some words may be highlighted for you. Pay careful attention.

In December of 2015, SpaceX, a company dedicated to the exploration of space, experienced a huge breakthrough. They were able to launch an aircraft to the edge of space and were able to return it, landing it upright on a floating platform in the ocean. The Falcon 9 rocket was the first of its kind to be able to do so and its significance is unparalleled. Furthermore, it has been able to accomplish this feat six times in the past ten months, confirming its validity. Another great feature of the Falcon 9 rocket is that it is extremely affordable compared to the existing alternatives. It took approximately four hundred and forty million dollars to complete the Falcon 9 project or about a third of what it would normally take. The cost of a usual space launch is estimated at 1.32 billion making space exploration extremely expensive and more importantly economically unsustainable. This is why NASA significantly reduced their spending in 2002 and could be an explanation as to why we still know so little about our surrounding environment. To make matters worse, NASA’s solutions for return up until now, have been exclusively to have the rockets either burn up in the atmosphere upon return or to have them crash in the ocean, never using them again. However, with the newfound technology of being able to return space crafts that SpaceX has _________, frequent space exploration could become a possibility in the immediate future. Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, is by no means a rocket scientist. He is simply a well-educated man who continuously recognizes opportunities. Always searching for untapped markets, Musk is the founder of Pay Pal, Tesla Motors as well as SolarCity and with the profitability of these companies he has been able to pursue his true passion; space exploration. The next step for Musk and his team is to send passengers into space, something they have yet to do. They hope to do so at some point in 2024 and this would represent huge strides for the company. Musk and SpaceX have been at the forefront of space exploration for the last decade, dominating the industry. If they are able to construct space crafts that could transport passengers then Musk may see his ultimate dream come true. This is to send people to Mars. The reason behind this dream is because Musk realizes the dangers that await us on Earth. He wants to send people to Mars not only for the sake of colonization but also to inspire the people of Earth. To try and show them that humans can indeed become a multi-planetary species.
