SSC Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) Guide 2026
Overview
The SSC MTS is a competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to recruit candidates for various Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff positions and Havaldar in CBIC and CBN.
Exam Pattern
The Computer Based Examination (CBE) consists of two sessions on the same day:
1. Session I (Numerical & Reasoning)
- Mode: Computer Based Examination (CBT)
- Duration: 45 minutes (60 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe)
- Sections:
- Numerical and Mathematical Ability (20 questions)
- Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving (20 questions)
2. Session II (General Awareness & English)
- Mode: Computer Based Examination (CBT)
- Duration: 45 minutes (60 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe)
- Sections:
- General Awareness (25 questions)
- English Language and Comprehension (25 questions)
Detailed Syllabus
Session I
- Numerical and Mathematical Ability: Number systems, Whole Numbers, LCM, HCF, Decimals, Fractions, Profit & Loss, Simple Interest, Average, Ratio and Proportion, Time and Work, Distance and Speed, Area and Perimeter, Volume and Surface Area.
- Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving: Questions on Alpha-Numeric Series, Coding and Decoding, Analogy, Following Directions, Similarities and Differences, Jumbling, Problem Solving, and Analysis, Non-verbal Reasoning based on diagrams, Age Calculations, Calendar, and Clock.
Session II
- General Awareness: Broad coverage of the test will be on Social Studies (History, Geography, Art and Culture, Civics, Economics), General Science, and Environmental Studies up to 10th Standard.
- English Language and Comprehension: Candidates' understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and its correct usage, etc., and to test comprehension, a simple paragraph may be given and questions based on the paragraph to be asked.
Marking Scheme
- Session I: Each question carries 3 marks. No negative marking.
- Session II: Each question carries 3 marks. Negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer.
Preparation Strategy
- Focus on Numerical and Reasoning for Session I: As there's no negative marking, try to attempt all questions while maintaining a good speed.
- Current Affairs: Stay updated with the latest news for General Awareness in Session II.
- English Grammar: Strengthen your grammar and vocabulary for the English section.
