25% less
Given
Total patients in city A = 64
Ratio of male: female = 5: 3
Total patients in city B = 54
Ratio of male: female = 5: 4
Solution
Let the number of males and females in city A = 5x and 3x
⇒ 5x + 3x = 64
⇒ 8x = 64
⇒ x = 8
∴ 5x = 40(Males of city A)
Let the number of males and females in city B = 5y and 4y
⇒ 5y + 4y = 54
⇒ 9y = 54
⇒ y = 6
∴ 5y = 30(Males of city B)
⇒ (40 - 30)/40 = 25%
∴ City 'B' males is 25% less than the number of male persons from City 'A
