  • Cell Organelles:
  • Cell Organelles define as membrane-bound cellular components.
  • These cell organelles are present within the cells and are independent in their functions.
  • They coordinate with their structures & function effectively for the normal functioning of the cell.
  • Single membrane-bound organelles:
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum, Lysosome, Vacuole, Golgi Apparatus, are called single membrane-bound organelles.
  • They are present only in a eukaryotic cell.
  • Double membrane-bound organelles:
  • Chloroplast & Mitochondria are double membrane-bound organelles.
  • Ther are present only in a eukaryotic cell.
  • The following table shows various structures of cell organelles with their respective functions.

Important Points

Types of Cell Organelles
NameStructureFunctions
Ribosomes- Non-membrane organelles, embedded within the endoplasmic reticulum. - Found floating freely in the cell’s cytoplasm.- Involved in the Proteins Synthesis.
Lysosomes- A tiny, single membrane-bound organelle. - It is circular-shaped. - It's filled with digestive enzymes.- Helps in digestion and digests dead damaged cells & remग्रoves wastes also. - For that reason, it is called “suicidal bags”.
Mitochondria- An oval-shaped, membrane-bound organelle. - This cell organelle is known as the “Power House of The Cell”.- The main functions of cellular respiration. - Storge energy in the form of ATP molecules.

Let, original height of cone = h

Original radius of the base = r

∴ Volume of the cone = πr2h/3

New height of the cone = 4h

New radius of the base = 2r

∴ New volume of the cone = π × (2r)2 × 4h/3 = 16πr2h/3

∴Required ratio = πr2h/3 ∶ 16πr2h/3

  2. ((b))

    36000

  3. ((c))

    40000

  4. ((d))

    72000

Show Answer
Answer: ((c))

40000

Let, the amount = Rs. x

When compounded annually,

Rate = 18%

Number of years = 1

∴ Interest = x (1 + 18/100) - x

⇒ 1.18x – x

⇒ Rs. 0.18x

When compounded half yearly,

Effective Rate = (18/2) = 9%

Number of half years = 1 × 2 = 2

∴ Interest = x (1 + 9/100)2 - x

⇒ x × (1.09)2 – x

⇒ 1.1881x – x

⇒ Rs. 0.1881x

According to problem,

⇒ 0.1881x – 0.18x = 324

⇒ 0.0081x = 324

⇒ x = 324/0.0081

⇒ x = 40000

∴The amount lent = Rs. 40000

A boat goes 2 km upstream and 3 km downstream in 20 minutes.

According to problem,

⇒ 2/x + 3/y = 20/60

⇒ 120/x + 180/y = 20

⇒ 240/x + 360/y = 40 ……….. (1) [Multiplying by 2 on both sides]

The boat goes 7 km upstream and 2 km downstream in 53 minutes.

According to problem,

⇒ 7/x + 2/y = 53/60

⇒ 420/x + 120/y = 53

⇒ 1260/x + 360/y = 159 …….. (2) [Multiplying by 3 on both sides]

From (2) – (1) we get,

⇒ 1260/x – 240/x = 159 – 40

⇒ 1020/x = 119

⇒ x = 1020/119

⇒ x = 60/7

Putting the value of x in (1) we get,

Show Answer
Answer: ((c))

1200

GIVEN:

A alone can complete the work in = 10 days

B alone can complete the work in = 12 days

C alone can complete the work in = 15 days

Total earning = Rs. 4500

FORMULA USED:

Share of C  = Ratio of C / Sum of ratio × 100

CALCULATION:

A alone can complete the work in = 10 days

∴ A’s 1 day’s work = 1/10

B alone can complete the work in = 12 days

∴ B’s 1 day’s work = 1/12

C alone can complete the work in = 15 days

∴ C’s 1 day’s work = 1/15

∴ Ratio of work of A, B and C,

⇒ (1/10) ∶ (1/12) ∶ (1/15)

⇒ 60 × 1/10 ∶ 60 × 1/12 ∶ 60 × 1/15

⇒ 6 ∶ 5 ∶ 4

Total earning = Rs. 4500

∴ Share of C,

⇒ 4500 × [4/(6 + 5 + 4)]

⇒ 4500 × 4/15

⇒ 1200

∴ Share of C = Rs. 1200

Improve the bracketed part of the sentence.

No sooner (he had returned home then) his grandparents felt happy.

  1. ((a))

    did he return home than

  2. ((b))

    he had returned home than

  3. ((c))

    had he returned home when

  4. ((d))

    no improvement

Show Answer
Answer: ((a))

did he return home than

Here the correct answer is Did he return home than.

Key Points

  • 'No sooner' and 'than' are correlative conjunctions i.e., they are always used in pairs.
  • For example: No sooner did I reach the station than the train left. (Hence, options 3) and 4) are incorrect as 'than' is not used.)
  • When we use an adverb with negative meaning (e.g. never, scarcely, hardly, no sooner) in front position for emphasis, we interchange the subject and the verb. The verb is used before the subject, in this case. This is the rule of inversion.
  • The format of 'No sooner…than' is: No sooner + did + Subject + V1 + than + rest of the sentence.
  • For example: No sooner did the bell ring than I opened it.
  • Only option 1) follows the above mentioned structure of the sentence, which is grammatically correct.

Therefore, the correct answer is: No sooner did he return home than his grandparents felt happy.

A passage is given with five questions following it. Read the passage carefully and select the best answer to each question out of the given four alternatives.

Morality is identified with ethics and symbolizes the doctrine of actions right or wrong. Politics is the notion of expediency and need not always by right. If something is wrong and merely expedient; it cannot be moral. To put it the other way round, whatever is right or just, or born of sound principles and designed to promote the social good, cannot be immoral. There appears a basic confrontation between morality and politics.

The great Utilitarian Bentham maintains that, "The greatest happiness of the greatest numbers is the foundation of morals and legislation." However, often it is found that there is a conflict between convictions and principles, on the one hand, and expediency on the other. Thus, morality and politics do not often go hand in hand, for politics is based upon expediency and its foundations are of 'power'. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, said Lord Acton and surely enough, corruption cannot breed morality. While morality establishes justice and fair play, politics, as Sidney Hillman opines, is the science of who gets what, when and why.Morality requires an equitable distribution of wealth, goods and commodities and opportunities while politics reeks of opportunism, of grabbing and seizing whatever you can, irrespective of the needs and claims of others. Morality stands for justice of all, while the politicians are generally selfish and self-seeking. All this goes to show that morality and politics do not go together. Any democracy today merely reiterates the story of a struggle for power, for perpetuating the safe citadel, and for keeping at bay any kind of opposition or criticism. Political parties symbolize nothing more than a bitter rivalry and quest for power by ousting all other rivals. Means and methods are thrown to the winds as long as selfish short-term aims and objectives are duly achieved and fulfilled.

On the other hand, morals and morality do not permit the adoption of just any means. Values are the foremost consideration. The traditional values which are in themselves moral, and symbols of rectitude and righteousness, have undergone a radical change in our modern times. Most of the cherished old values and morals are being sacrificed at the altar of circumstances for the sake of expediency and quick gains. The current political atmosphere and scene in most parts of the world is devoid of moral ardour and sound convictions.Opportunism has become a matter of faith with politicians or those having even a slight bent of mind towards politics. Patriotism has come to be identified with politics and well illustrates Johnson's dictum of patriotism being the last refuge of scoundrels.

165

Which of the following is 'CORRECT' with respect to the passage?

  1. ((a))

current politics has moral ardours and sound convictions
