Given:
In a fort, there was a ration for 560 soldiers that would last the soldiers for 70 days
After 20 days, 60 soldiers left the fort
Formula Used:
Man – day formula
(m1× d1× h1)/w1 = (m2 × d2 × h2)/w2
Where m1, m2 is the number of persons working
d1, d2 is the number of days taken
h1, h2 is the number of hours
w1, w2 is the units of work done
Calculation:
There was ration for 560 soldiers that would last the soldiers for 70 days
Let the quantity of ration one soldier eat in a day = x
⇒ Total quantity of ration = 560 × x × 70 = 39200x
After 20 days, 60 soldiers left the fort
Quantity of ration used in 20 days
⇒ 20 × 560x= 11200x
⇒ Remaining ration = 39200x - 11200x = 28000x
Remaining soldiers = 560 - 60 = 500
∴ Ration lasts for 28000x/500x = 56 days
