It was habit and fear that kept them in bondage, not the ropes themselves.
I guess the point of this long winded story about Dumbo is that we never really know what we’re capable of until we push the limits a bit, step outside of our comfort zone, and be ballsy and crazy enough to tug at the things that we feel hold us back every once in a while, in hopes that they’ll rip apart, leaving us free to command our destinies.

जब सविनय अवज्ञा आंदोलन अपने शिखर पर था तब नवम्बर 1930 में भारतीय गोलमेज सम्मेलन का अधिवेशन प्रारंभ हुआ। इसमें कांग्रेस अनुपस्थित थी। पहला गोलमेज सम्मेलन सफल रहा। परिसंघ बनाने के पक्ष में सभी एकमत थे। सर तेजबहादुर सप्नू परिसंघ के समर्थक थे। बीकानेर के महाराजा और भोपाल के नवाब ने राजाओं की ओर से यह कहा कि वे परिसंघ में मिलने के लिए तैयार हैं। लीग के दोनों गुट, एक शफी वाला और दूसरा जिन्ना वाला, सहमत हो गए। किंतु सभी ने यह अनुभव किया कि कांग्रेस को सम्मिलित किया जाना चाहिए। वाइसराय लार्ड इर्विन और गांधीजी के बीच एक भेंट हुई और दोनों ने 5 मार्च 1931 को एक करार पर हस्ताक्षर किए।
महात्माजी आंदोलन वापिस लेने और गोलमेज सम्मेलन में सम्मिलित होने के लिए सहमत हो गए। इस करार की मिश्रित प्रतिक्रिया हुई। कुछ लोगों ने इस करार को सफल बताया क्योंकि वाइसराय बातचीत करने के लिए मेज पर आया था। दूसरों की आलोचना का यह आधार था कि भारतीयों को इससे कुछ भी प्राप्त नहीं हुआ। असंतोष का एक महत्वपूर्ण कारण यह भी था कि गांधीजी ने भगत सिंह, सुखदेव और राजगुरु इन तीन क्रांतिकारियों पर दया करके उन्हें फांसी नहीं देने के लिए वाइसराय से अनुरोध नहीं किया। इन तीनों को 23 मार्च 1931 को फांसी दे दी गई। पूरा देश इससे आहत हो गया और दुख में डूब गया। स्थान-स्थान पर गांधीजी के विरुद्ध प्रदर्शन किए गए। 29 मार्च 1931 को कांग्रेस का जो अधिवेशन कराची में प्रारंभ हुआ उसमें इन तीनों की वीरता और त्याग की प्रशंसा करते हुए एक संकल्प पारित किया गया।
