UP TET 2025 – Complete Preparation Guide for Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test
What is UP TET?
The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET) is a state-level eligibility examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB), Prayagraj. Passing UP TET is a mandatory qualification for anyone seeking appointment as a primary or upper-primary school teacher in UP government-aided schools.
Key fact: Since 2017, the UP TET certificate holds lifetime validity — once you pass, you never need to re-appear.
UP TET has two papers:

Certificate Validity
As per the Uttar Pradesh government notification (2017), the UP TET qualifying certificate now has lifetime validity. Candidates who cleared UP TET in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 or any subsequent year hold a permanently valid certificate — there is no requirement to re-appear.
Important: Does UP TET Guarantee a Job?
No. The UP TET certificate makes you eligible to apply for government teacher posts in UP. Actual appointment happens through separate teacher recruitment drives announced by the UP government (e.g., UP Teacher Bharti, Sahayak Adhyapak Bharti). Both the TET certificate and the recruitment merit list are needed for appointment.
Preparation Strategy
- Start with Child Development & Pedagogy: 30 marks in every paper. Most candidates underestimate this section — it requires conceptual understanding of learning theories, not just memorisation.
- Hindi grammar is scoring: Sandhi, Samas, Muhavare, Ras, and Alankar are reliably tested every year. Build a topic-wise formula sheet and practise 10 questions daily.
- Paper 2 — Science stream: Follow NCERT Class 6, 7, and 8 textbooks for both Science and Maths. These books are the primary source for almost every question.
- Paper 2 — Social stream: Map and timeline-based questions from History and Geography are frequent. Use NCERT Social Science books for Classes 6–8 and create timeline notes.
- No negative marking strategy: With 150 questions in 150 minutes and no penalty, there is no reason to leave any question blank. Attempt all; come back to difficult ones.
- Mock test tempo: Target 1 question per minute. Practise with full-length mock tests at least twice a week in the final month.
- Language II choice: Most candidates choose English — if your English grammar foundation is weak, consider Sanskrit or Urdu if you have studied them, as those are often less competitive.
